Palace of the Believers
Parade Stand/Field. This is where Saddam Hussein would review the troops.
Reviewing Stand
Judes, Ana and I reviewing the imaginary troops.
Monument made with colors of the Iraqi flag.
Close up of the hands holding the swords in the Crossed Swords monument. They say that these are models of Saddam Hussein’s hands.

Yet another view of the destroyed Palace 2000
Last one…
View of the Reviewing Stand. See those strange tubes next to the chairs (they’re white)? Those were to pipe in air conditioned/cool air for the VIPs to feel comfortable during the parades.

Although I lived there in 2014, I never saw any of this. We flew by chopper to the new embassy compound and were not allowed to leave it. Once, because of low visibility, had to go by “rhino”. At night, pitch black, so despite the helpful driver pointing out landmarks along the way, I saw nothing.
Until now. Thanks very much for posting these pics!
